TAP Trains & Hires Pipeline Welding Inspectors in Albania

12 July 2017

Tirana, Albania. In June 2017, the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) organised a training for gas pipeline welding inspectors. Made available for the first time in Albania, the four-day course was offered to 12 Albanian nationals. All participants are now certified as pipeline welding inspectors and will start working for the TAP project.

TAP organised the training in the framework of facilitating employment and boosting local skills in the areas crossed by the pipeline. The training was delivered by one of the most experienced companies in the sector, Bureau Veritas, a world leader in industrial testing, inspections, certification, and international standards.

Pipeline Delivery Manager for TAP Albania Richard Anstey said: “We will continue to engage local experts at every stage of the pipeline construction process. As such, this training developed the knowledge of local professionals in controlling the pipeline welding quality.”

Diana Xhafa, a training participant, said: “TAP gave us a twofold opportunity which we really appreciated. We received thorough training and, at the same time, a much-needed job. Both the training and the work experience improve our candidate profiles for future employment, even beyond Albania’s borders.”

TAP is committed to developing and enhancing local capabilities in the energy sector. In February 2017, TAP briefed young professionals on the requirements for becoming field inspectors. Additionally, TAP also established an internship programme for students who may want to pursue a career in the energy field.

TAP and its contractors currently employ more than 2,400 people in Albania, approximately 84% of which are locally hired.
