The Swiss Confederation has always supported the TAP Project and the development of the gas sector in Albania. This was the main message conveyed by the Director for Economic Cooperation and Development in the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), Raymund Furrer, and the Swiss Ambassador to Albania, Christoph Graf during their visit.
The Swiss officials were pleased to see first-hand one of the TAP construction sites in Berat (at kilometre point 142 along the 215km project route in Albania). Representatives of TAP and its contractor Spiecapag presented the project progress as well as the construction phases currently under way in Berat. Discussions also focused on the challenges posed by the mountainous terrain in Albania and TAP’s commitments to technical safety, environment and culture heritage protection.
After the site visit, the SECO director and the Swiss Embassy representatives met with TAP’s Country Manager for Albania, Shkelqim Bozgo, who emphasised the economic importance of the project for the Albanian economy and TAP’s social and environmental investments (SEI) in the country.
TAP representatives expressed once again their gratitude for the unwavering support of the Swiss Confederation to the TAP Project as well as the active role of the Swiss Embassy in Albania.
