Lecce at the heart of TAP’s activities during the Festival dell’ Energia week

Lecce was at the heart of TAP’s activities during the Festival dell’ Energia week, with discussions on Europe’s and Italy’s energy future, a dedicated TAP session on environmental monitoring and mitigation activities, and a visit by Italy’s Minister for the Environment and Energy Security to TAP’s Pipeline Receiving Terminal (PRT) in Melendugno.

Shaping the energy debate

On 28–30 May, TAP was at the heart of key energy discussions in Lecce through its participation in the Festival dell’ Energia.

As a sponsor of the Festival, TAP contributed to several high-level discussions on energy security, infrastructure and the energy transition. The Company was represented by Managing Director Luca Schieppati, Head of Commercial Marija Savova, Senior Manager QHSE, Land, Permitting and Stakeholder Management Jose Manuel de la Torre Gallegos, and Luigi Quaranta, Communication and Media Relations Advisor, who took part in panels addressing the evolving role of energy infrastructure in Europe and the Mediterranean region. In these panels, TAP reaffirmed its role in strengthening energy security through reliable and flexible infrastructure, supporting diversification of supply routes and enabling a balanced and pragmatic energy transition.

In the context of the Festival, on 29 May, TAP organised the session “Possible Coexistence: Environment, Landscape and Territory after Five Years of Operations”, presenting the results of the first five years through activities, projects and environmental monitoring carried out both offshore and onshore, as well as mitigation actions implemented during the post-operational phase.

Ministerial visit highlights TAP’s strategic role

The visit of Italy’s Minister for the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, to TAP’s PRT in Melendugno on 28 May, accompanied by TAP’s Managing Director, further highlighted the relevance of TAP’s infrastructure within the broader Italian and European energy landscape.

During the visit, the Minister highlighted that TAP delivers 10 billion cubic metres of gas annually from Azerbaijan to Italy, representing a key share of the country’s energy supply. He also emphasised the role of the Company in strengthening national energy security, recognising the contribution of Italian expertise in delivering a strategic infrastructure developed with careful attention to environmental protection.

He further underlined how major infrastructure projects contribute to the country’s development, stressing the importance of long-term vision and confidence in research and technology to support Italy’s energy future.

These activities highlight TAP’s dual role: contributing to strategic dialogue on Europe’s energy future while showcasing the responsible management of its infrastructure and its interaction with the surrounding environment.

About the Festival dell’ Energia

Now in its 14th edition, the Festival dell’ Energia is one of Italy’s leading platforms for discussion on energy policy, infrastructure and the energy transition.

Originally established in Lecce, the Festival has become a national and increasingly international reference point, bringing together institutional representatives, industry leaders, academics and the wider public for an open and multidisciplinary dialogue on energy and its broader economic, environmental and geopolitical implications.

The choice of Lecce reflects both the Festival’s origins and the city’s role as a recognised hub for energy dialogue in Italy, as well as its connection to the Mediterranean region, which is increasingly central to discussions on energy security and cooperation.
