Upstream’ s activities include oil and natural gas exploration; field development and production; hydrocarbon transportation, storage and processing; and the marketing and trading of natural gas including liquefied natural gas (LNG). Downstream’ s activities involve the supply and trading, refining, manufacturing, marketing and transportation of crude oil, petroleum and petrochemicals products. Our activities in low-carbon energy, primarily focussed on biofuels, are managed through our Alternative Energy business.
Snam
Snam, a European leader in the construction and integrated management of natural gas infrastructure, operates and develops Europe’s largest, most accessible pipeline network (more than 40,000 km), the largest storage infrastructure (19 bcm capacity) and one of the first LNG terminals built in Europe.

Snam’s investments aim to facilitate the European Energy Union network integration and to promote natural gas as a key pillar of a sustainable energy mix. With its 3,000 people, Snam is active in natural gas transportation, storage and regasification. It also operates, through associated companies, in Austria (TAG, GCA), France (TIGF), United Kingdom (Interconnector UK).
Fluxys
Headquartered in Belgium, Fluxys is a fully independent gas infrastructure group with 1,200 employees active in gas transmission & storage and liquefied natural gas terminalling. Through its associated companies across Europe, Fluxys operates 8,100 kilometres of pipeline and liquefied natural gas terminals totalling a yearly regasification capacity of 29 billion cubic meters.

The company operates in eight countries: Spain, the United States, Mexico, Peru, Germany, Albania, Greece and Italy.

In Spain it is the Technical Manager of the Gas System and, according to the Royal Decree-Law 8/2023, Enagás may operate as provisional manager of the hydrogen backbone network. In line with its commitment to energy transition, Enagás has announced its goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2040, with a firm commitment to decarbonisation and the promotion of renewable gases, especially hydrogen.
