Social and environmental investments in Albania
The Trans Adriatic Pipeline supports a range of tailored social and environmental projects in Albania.
TAP maintains ongoing dialogue with local communities and all levels of the Albanian government to develop mutually-agreed Social and Environmental Investment (SEI) projects that support the communities’ development priorities.
TAP’s SEI Programme in Albania amounts to €14 million.
Priority investment areas include:
- Community infrastructure: including schools and water supply.
- Livelihoods: agricultural sector.
- Education and training: including an internship programme.
- Community safety: access to medical supplies, awareness raising and support for emergency services.
Notable projects
A number of projects contributing to social, humanitarian and other important causes have been implemented in Albania through TAP’s SEI programme, including:
- educational projects, including the construction and/or renovation of 12 schools, kindergartens and nurseries, three rounds of internship programmes for university students, the complete furnishing of the Berat City Library
- reconstructing water supply networks in Mbrostar and Stropan
- restoring and refurbishing the Romanian bulding in Korça and transforming it into the Gjon Mili Museum
- ecotourism and environmental projects, including building panoramic structures in Osumi Canyon, planting 1,000 trees in Tirana and cleaning up rivers and beaches. Some of these projects have been implemented in collaboration with local partners, such as the American Development Fund.
- developing an awareness campaign on road, home and work safety, targeted at local communities, providing firefighting uniforms and equipment
- agriculture projects, including building a fresh food market in the city of Korca and rehabilitating irrigation systems in the municipalities of Fier, Devoll and Ura Vajgurore
The Concert Hall of the University of Arts in Tirana opens its doors to the public
TAP along with the Albanian Ministry of Culture, co-funded the renovation, refurbishment, and restoration of the Concert Hall of the University of Arts in Tirana. The building, which enjoys the status of cultural monument of category II, opened its doors to the public on October 20, 2023 with a gala event organised on the occasion of ‘Artists’ Day’.
A brand-new day for the children of Roksovec Kindergarten Nr. 1
As part of its SEI Program, TAP reconstructed the Kindergarten Nr. 1 in Roskovec. The 56 children of the Kindergarten No1. in Roskovec will now enjoy a school with fully reconstructed spaces complying with all the safety standards applied by TAP.
TAP donated a fleet of 16 firefighting vehicles to the Civil Emergenices in Albania
TAP donated a fleet of 16 firefighting vehicles to 10 municipalities across the route of the pipeline in Albania.
Rehabilitation of the Thanas Ikonomi School in Grecalli, Fier
The “Thanas Ikonomi” school is located in the Grecalli village, the Municipality of Fier. Built in 1975, the school has been gradually deteriorating to the point that some of the students stopped attending it due to safety concerns. TAP decided to rehabilitate all interior and exterior school facilities. More than 210 students now study in much better conditions.
