Reconstruction of "Gjon Mili" Museum in Korça
Albanian photographer Gjon Mili is one of the pioneers in the use of stroboscopic instruments. Fully committed to protecting the tradition and cultural heritage across its host countries, TAP supported the renovation of an iconic building in Korca to house a museum celebrating Mili’s life and contribution to the world of photography. The new Gjon Mili museum of photography opened its doors to the public in December 2018 and exhibits over 240 of his photographs. Tourists can now discover first-hand the work of one of Korca’s key personalities.
€425,000 investment
While the Albanian Ministry of Culture donated the 240 photographs from the private collection of the world-famous photographer, the Municipality of Korca made available the three-floor building which went through a full restoration process as well as a renovation of its interior.
Gjon Mili (1904 - 1984) was born in Korca and at an early age emigrated to the United States where he became a renowened photographer working for The Life Magazine. He is most famous for his images of Picasso drawing with light, capturing a sequence of actions in one photograph.
The new museum was inaugurated in December 2018 by the Minister of Culture and the Mayor of Korca along with TAP representatives.
Abkons, TAP’s contractor for SEI management in Albania, supervised the works, while Leon Konstruksion carried out the restoration.
