Building a New Kindergarten in Dushnik, Berat

The children going to the kindergarten in the village of Dushnik used to cram into two classrooms part of the local elementary school. The facilities were far from being suitable for the needs of the 72 children, so TAP decided to intervene and build a one-floor building in the school yard. The new kindergarten now provides optimal conditions for the children in Dushnik.

€250,000 investment

The new kindergarten building has an area of approximately 256m2 and is split into three areas which can accommodate about 24 children each. The facilities also include offices for the Principal and the kindergarten psychologist, a nursery, toilets and a dressing room. In addition, there is a special room for children who might be sick or carrying a contagious infectious disease.

The external area measures 349 m2. Materials of the highest standards have been used for the floors, walls and restrooms. New furniture has also been provided.

Special importance was paid to the new electrical and water supply systems. External thermal insulation has been installed on all facades. TAP has also implemented relevant safety standards, fitting a fire extinguishing system and emergency staircase.

The kindergarten is attended by children aged between 3-6 years.

The construction of the kindergarten in Dushnik started in May 2018 and was commissioned and handed over to the Municipality of Berat in November 2018. The school was inaugurated in January 2019 at a ceremony attended by the local authorities and Mayor of Berat, Petrit Sinaj as well as TAP representatives.

The Albanian construction company Leon Konstruksion was engaged to implement the project, supervised by Abkons, TAP’s implementation partner for managing SEI infrastructure projects in Albania. During the construction works, approximately 95 people were employed.
