Road Health & Safety Awareness Programme

Road traffic continues to be one of the main safety issues in Albania. In 2016, 269 people lost their lives in road accidents. In response to this situation, TAP initiated an education and awareness programme focused on the students and communities along the pipeline route.

€140,000 investment

TAP’s efforts to educate and raise awareness about road safety go beyond the mitigation of pipeline-related construction risks. TAP aims to improve the safety culture across local communities by sharing experiences and good safety behaviours. By discussing safety in schools, TAP supports the Ministry of Education in changing behaviours and developing good habits from an early age.

The Safety Awareness programme included:

  • 5 workshops with teachers from 70 schools
  • 1,232 training hours for 154 teachers
  • 1,851 students trained by experts
  • 5,811 pupils trained by teachers
  • 22,986 training hours on road safety to 7,762 pupils in 70 schools along TAP’s pipe transportation route
  • 1,000 artworks on HSE topics (drawings, essays) prepared by trained students
  • 700 members of 18 communities attended road safety trainings
  • 82 employees form 8 healthcare centres trained on first aid
  • 800 safety brochures distributed in local communities
  • 16,000 safety brochures distributed in 70 schools
  • 50 safety corners placed in 50 schools.
