Region of Eastern Macedonia-Thrace Received 6 Snowploughs from TAP

20 December 2017

Komotini, Greece. On 19 December 2017, a delivery ceremony took place for six snowploughs donated by the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) AG to the Region of Eastern Macedonia-Thrace, in the context of the programme DESTINATION, SAFETY | Donation of Utility Vehicles which TAP is implementing in Northern Greece. The programme was launched in June 2017, progresses according to schedule, is part of TAP’s voluntary Social and Environmental Investments (SEI), and focuses on improving local communities’ quality of life, as well as environmental management.

DESTINATION, SAFETY is one of the most extensive SEI projects that TAP is implementing along its route. Overall, the investment exceeds €10 million for approximately 90 utility vehicles: ambulances, garbage trucks and road-sweepers, forestry vehicles, snowploughs, and civil protection vehicles. Each one of these vehicles addresses specific local needs and relevant requests submitted to TAP by stakeholders and representatives of local communities.

The six snowploughs are all-wheel-drive multi-purpose vehicles. Apart from snowploughs and salt spreaders, they combine the properties of lawn mowing, branch cutting and pruning machinery. Consequently, they are expected to support the local authorities in clearing snow and ice during the winter, while maintaining parks and other public spaces all year-round.

The vehicles were received by the Head of the Eastern Macedonia-Thrace Region, Christos Metios. During the delivery ceremony, Mr. Metios noted: "An energy project of international importance is being implemented these past few months in the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. The construction of TAP […] began from Kipoi in Evros and is progressing across our Region. This is a project that will significantly enhance the geopolitical role of our area, while also offering considerable benefits to our local societies […]. For these reasons, our Region has developed a constructive collaboration with TAP, for which I would like to publicly express my pleasure […]. Today, the Region receives from TAP six snowploughs, a donation that will contribute to the efforts of our regional services. I therefore receive these multi-purpose vehicles with the certainty that this particular donation will benefit the citizens of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace."

TAP’s representative Spyros Nakos, Community Liaison Officer for Eastern Macedonia-Thrace, expressed his pleasure that TAP is contributing to the protection and safety of the local population, and thanked Mr. Metios and regional authorities for their excellent collaboration. Thanks to this good cooperation it was possible to deliver the vehicles in less than six months since this investment was announced.

TAP has scheduled the delivery of four more snowploughs, to the Region of Western Macedonia, on 21 December 2017.
