One flow, two milestones: 60 bcm delivered to Europe, 50 bcm to Italy

The Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) has delivered over 60 billion cubic metres (bcm) of natural gas to Europe since the start of commercial operations, including 50 bcm to Italy, marking two significant milestones in its continued contribution to the continent’s energy resilience.

As part of the Southern Gas Corridor, TAP has transported natural gas from the Caspian to markets in Greece, Bulgaria and Italy for over five years, contributing to the diversification of both supply routes and sources, while supporting energy security across the region.

The 60 bcm delivered to date, an equivalent to an annual gas consumption by around 45–60 million European households, illustrates TAP’s significant contribution to the regional energy needs. As the world events unfold, diversifying sources and routes, together with the asset’s resilience and its adaptability to changing market conditions, is becoming increasingly important.

Building on this track record, TAP has completed the first phase of its expansion, increasing the long-term capacity by 1.2 bcm per year from early 2026. In parallel, TAP continues to respond to market needs through the provision of additional volumes and greater flexibility, including features such as ‘reverse flow’ and ‘intra-day’ delivery services.

Commenting on the milestone, Luca Schieppati, TAP’s Managing Director, said: “The combination of these two milestones - more than 60 bcm delivered through TAP in general and 50 bcm delivered to Italy specifically - demonstrates both the scale of our operations and the important role the asset continues to play in supporting Europe’s energy security. These achievements are the result of the consistent efforts by our teams across all countries to deliver with pride. They also underscore our strong commitment to safety and operational excellence, which remain at the core of everything we do.

We are equally grateful for the continued trust by our shareholders, as well as the close collaboration with host governments, partners and local communities. Our priority remains the safe and uninterrupted transportation of gas, while contributing to Europe’s energy security and diversification of supply.”
