The TAP team in Tirana joined the “Run4Autism” marathon, initiative organised in framework of April 2016 the International Autism Month. This annual event aims to raise awareness of autism and collect funds for the treatment of autistic children in Albania. Wearing “TiRun – Run4Autism” t-shirts, TAP employees ran 5 km or 10 km along the main boulevard of the capital along with hundreds of participants.

Our team were touched by the story of Jamarber, a five-year-old boy with a contagious smile and enthusiasm, who battled autism. Jamarber is a gifted child. He started reading at the age of three and today is passionate about books in Albanian, English and Italian.

After talking to his parents and understanding in more detail the challenges and needs of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), TAP staff decided to donate funds to help Jamarber. Two donation boxes were placed in the office. TAP then doubled the collected sum. The total amount was handed over to Jamarber’s family in May.

World studies indicate that 1 in 68 children are identified with autism spectrum disorder. April is the Autism Awareness Month and represents an excellent opportunity to promote autism awareness and acceptance as well as to draw attention to the tens of thousands facing an autism diagnosis each year.

This is the second time when TAP employees in Tirana donate funds for those in need.
