TAP delivers a state-of-the-art Conference Centre to the Regional Authority of Central Macedonia, Greece

Thessaloniki, Greece. As part of our Social and Environmental Investment (SEI) program, we have refurbished 3 buildings of the historic Thessaloniki Gas Company, dating back to XVIII century, into a modern Conference Centre.

The works, with a total budget exceeding €1.6 million, were entirely funded by TAP and implemented with the support of a contractor according to the guidelines of the Ephorate of Modern Monuments of Central Macedonia. The construction works for the three main buildings started in late 2022 and were completed in time at the end of 2023.

The inauguration event took place in September 2023, where Ioannis Maris, Country Representative in Greece and Vassiliki Sotiropoulou, Social & Environmental Investment Manager participated on behalf of TAP.

TAP’s legacy and contribution to the development of the local and regional economy

The project entails the full refurbishment of the 3 buildings of the old Thessaloniki Gas Company, recognized as historical since 1994. The refurbished buildings will now serve the city and the region as a state-of-the-art venue, fully equipped to host conferences and conventions. The new Conference Centre will also be hosting the meetings of the Regional Council of Central Macedonia and the collective bodies of the Regional Authority, while the space will also be available to other stakeholders, such as chambers, professional unions, organizations, and associations.

Ioannis Maris, TAP Country Representative in Greece, said: “Less than a year ago, staying true to our commitment to contribute to the economic and social development of local communities, we announced the start of the refurbishment works of the iconic buildings of the old gas factory in Thessaloniki. The goal was to transform them, always with respect to their architecture and history, into a contemporary Conference Centre, which would contribute to the development of local economy and strengthen business tourism in central Macedonia and northern Greece. The refurbishment project that was implemented entirely with TAP funding will provide another valuable, state-of-the-art infrastructure to the city of Thessaloniki, which we hope will become a point of reference for the wider region as well”.
