TAP Provides €335,478 for Livestock Market in Fier, Albania
TAP and the Fier Municipality delivered a new livestock market in Fier, which provides a new and safer trading space for farmers. The project was co-financed by the Fier Municipality and TAP, which contributed €335,478, as part of its Social and Environmental Investment (SEI) programme in Albania.
The project, with a total area of 13 149 m², included the construction of an office space for the veterinarian and the management staff, an exhibition space for animals, an emergency slaughterhouse, restrooms and a parking for small and heavy vehicles. The project was especially important for the area, since neither Fier nor the neighbouring districts (Rroskovec, Mallakastër and Lushnja) had such a market facility. The market is located in an area that provides access to the main regional roads.
Armando Subashi, the mayor of the Fier Municipality, said: “I would like to express once more my gratitude to TAP for endorsing this project, which will support local farmers by offering them a safer trading space. By implementing this project, as well as with other social projects in the Municipality of Fier, TAP showed once again that it listens and responds to the needs along its route.”
Malfor Nuri, the TAP Country Manager for Albania, added: “TAP is contributing to the economies of communities along the pipeline route through a series of social and environmental investments. The new Fier livestock market is now providing optimal standards for marketing local produce and livestock. The market will enhance the area’s wider economy, as well as contribute to improved animal welfare and food safety standards.”
TAP remains committed to improving the quality of life in the communities along the pipeline route, in cooperation with the central government and local authorities.
The livestock market project was designed by Metropolis Studio under the USAID’s financial support, while TAP’s contractor for social and environmental investments, Abkons, managed the project implementation by providing construction management and supervision services.
