Α Bright Traffic Light Enlivens the Researcher’s Night

On 30 September, TAP lightened the Thessaloniki “Researcher’s Night” with its interactive theatrical game “Fos Fanari” (Bright Traffic Light). Committed to implementing corporate social responsibility actions with a significant footprint on local communities, TAP is proud to support educational initiatives which make science accessible to the public, along with improving youths’ knowledge of health and safety issues.

The “Researcher’s Night”, organised by the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH) and the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH), along with the National Technical University of Athens, the University of Patras and the University of Thessaly, was held in Thessaloniki for the third consecutive year celebrating science, research and fun learning. The “Researcher’s Night” idea was born 11 years ago, and with the support of the European Commission –as part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, the EU programme to boost European research careers– it has been taking place ever since on the last Friday of September all over the continent, aiming to promote science, show people that research is fun and influences everyone’s daily lives. This year, 250 cities in Europe and neighbouring countries hosted the event, with Athens, Heraklio and Rethymno, Patras and Larisa representing Greece, along with Thessaloniki.

TAP, honouring its commitment to comply with internationally recognised health and safety standards and promote best practices in this field, presented “Fos Fanari” (Bright Traffic Light), an interactive theatrical game that promotes road and traffic safety. The play was designed and implemented by CERTH for children between 6 and 12 years of age. The performance was included in the Researcher’s Nights programme and activities, since both TAP and the organisers acknowledge the importance of children being educated on core road safety rules and on using the road network correctly as pedestrians, cyclists or passengers. Numerous children and their parents attended both of Friday’s performances, held in the Mediterranean Cosmos Shopping Centre.

The initiative is part of the Road Safety Seminars campaign, a TAP-sponsored communities programme, organised and implemented by the Hellenic Institute of Transport (ΙΜΕΤ/ΕΚΕΤΑ), in the Prefectures of Western Macedonia, Central Macedonia and Eastern Macedonia-Thrace.
