TAP and NGO Korpusi i Vullnetarëve Join Forces for Clean-up

In June and July, TAP and “Korpusi i Vullnetarëve”, a member of the NGO “Free Thought Forum”, organised 5 environmental clean-ups along the pipeline route in Albania.

Tirana, Albania. In June and July 2018, the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) in cooperation with “Korpusi i Vullnetarëve”, a member of the non-governmental organisation “Free Thought Forum”, organised five environmental clean-up activities along the pipeline route in Albania.

The clean-ups were carried out in the Municipalities of Fier, Berat, Ura Vajgurore and Poliçan, in areas identified by municipal employees as the most problematic. In total, more than 1,000 volunteers participated in the five activities at the Semani beach, the Mbrostari Bridge, the Berati Historical Neighbourhood and along parts of the Osumi River valley, in Ura Vajgurore and Poliçani.

The volunteers removed more than 5,000 waste bags, containing mostly plastic packaging, cans and textile clothing accumulated over the years.

The clean-up actions also served to raise awareness for the volunteers and the residents of these areas. Citizens of all ages, employees of several municipalities and TAP also took part in these clean-up actions as volunteers.

The initiative is part of TAP's Social and Environmental Investment (SEI) Programme and the project’s commitment to environmental protection along the areas crossed by the pipeline.
