TAP's environmental initiatives in Greece

TAP's commitments regarding the environment and environmental management lie at the heart of our activities. Specifically, we have set clear sustainability goals that are embedded in the operational framework of the pipeline. In addition, sustainable environmental management is one of the main pillars of the SEI programme that TAP implements across its route in Northern Greece.

10 Forest Management Studies in Nestorio, Kastoria and Argos Orestiko

TAP has funded a total of 10 Forest Management Studies, 5 for the Nestorio municipality, 1 for Argos Orestiko municipality and 4 for Kastoria municipality. The project supports the livelihoods of thousands of people living in these areas, as the studies allow them to continue their sustainable forestry practices. At the same time, they ensure the environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of forests.

As a result of lack of funds, the three municipalities of Nestorio, Kastoria and Argos Orestiko were unable to commission new Forest Management Studies after the previous ones had expired. These studies, however, are necessary for logging activities, as they specify the forest management models to be applied and expected and timber volume suggested to be felled per location annually.

Consequently, the drafting of updated Forest Management Studies is essential for locals to continue sustainable logging. The new studies are valid for at least 10 years. In addition to ensuring the livelihoods of local forest cooperatives and loggers for at least that period of time, they also support environmental management and regional development, by increasing municipal revenue.

Donation of bins to municipalities in Northern Greece

TAP has delivered a total of 2,500 garbage bins to the municipalities of Irakleia, Langadas and Oraiokastro. The donation is anticipated to support waste management efforts in these three areas, while also contributing to the improvement of quality of life for locals, as well as environmental management.

Upgrade of the Palaia Kavala environmental path

TAP offered its support to the Palaia Kavala Cultural Association for upgrading part of the wooden railing along the Palaia Kavala environmental path that has been opened, protected and maintained by the Association.

The environmental path is a beautiful mountainous route of about 3km along a stream in the Palaia Kavala village, where hikers can discover hidden beauties of nature, enjoy the natural shade of the centuries-old plane trees, taste the crystal-clear spring water, and admire the unique waterfall.

TAP considers both safety and the environment as utmost priorities, therefore gladly responded to the Association’s request to restore part of the wooden railing along the Palaia Kavala environmental path, to ensure safe passage for hikers and visitors.

Donation of equipment to environmental associations

In the context of its social and environmental investments, TAP has donated forestry and operational equipment to environmental associations active in mountainous Western Macedonia.

Specifically, forestry equipment was delivered to the Oinoi community of the Kastoria municipality and to the local association "Friends of the Environment." Moreover, TAP offered its support to the Kastoria Environmental Education Centre and the Environmental Protection Society.
