TAP supports NGOs and social initiatives in Greece

Since 2014, TAP has supported more than 20 institutions and associations located in all three regions traversed by the pipeline. And from May 2016 onwards, we have been collaborating with the Network of Social Solidarity (NSS), and organisation which specialises in this line of work. 

NGOs and associations supported by TAP over the years include:

• the SOS Children’s village Aristino (Alexandroupolis, Thrace) 
• the Children’s village in Filyro (Thessaloniki)
• the NGO "Keletron, Love for Children"
• the mobile Breast Cancer Prevention Mobile Unit, in collaboration with Theagenio hospital in Thessaloniki
• the "Agia Marina" institute in Kavala for children with special needs
• the NGO "Children’s refuge" in Thessaloniki 
• the Centre for Children’s Creative Activities in Serres
• the Institute for the protection of children with autism in Kastoria
• the "Stavros Halioris" Social Centre in Xanthi
• the "Athina and Lazaros Rizos" Nursing Home in Kastoria
• the Association of Parents and Friends of People with Autism in Eordaia
• the "Pnoe" Association in Kavala 
• the Social Grocery of the Amyntaio municipality
• the Social Tutorials Workshop of the Kastoria Labour Centre in the municipalities of Kastoria and Argos Orestiko
• the PwD Association "Agioi Theodoroi" in Komotini 
• the Parents and Friends Association of Persons with Autism "Agios Vasileios" in Alexandroupolis 
• the Centre of Welfare and Solidarity of the Komotini municipality
• the charitable association "The Good Samaritan" in the Eordaia municipality
• the Kastoria branch of the Red Cross
• the Drama-based organisation caring for people with chronic disease, "Agios Savvas"
• "Orizontas," a municipal Centre in Edessa for the creative development of children with disabilities
• the "Elpida" association in Oraiokastro, supporting persons with autism and mental disabilities.

These donations allowed the purchase of household and office appliances; furniture and electronics; medical and rehabilitation equipment; specialised transport vehicles; building renovations and food supplies.

In the summer of 2017 TAP helped build a special SEATRAC ramp on the beach of Avdira to facilitate access for Persons with Disabilities (PwD). In addition, TAP donated equipment to clean the surrounding coastline and improve environmental management in the area. The investment was implemented via TAP’s partner, the Network of Social Solidarity, and amounted to a total of more than €100,000.

The SEΑTRAC mechanism was installed at the "Leukippos" beach in Avdira, close to the local Vocational Education and Training School for Persons with Disabilities; a primary school for PwD; as well as a special school for the blind.

The mechanism comprises a seat that moves on a rail, allowing persons with mobility impairments to swim in the sea independently or with the help of a carer. TAP also supported the building of a wooden access passage, changing rooms, and a shower. 

As for the second part of the initiative, it consists of a special vehicle used by drivers of the municipal technical services to clean and maintain local beaches.

True to its commitment to the local communities it traverses, TAP is implementing social and environmental investments that address actual needs. As such, and in collaboration with the NGO Ilitominon, TAP made a significant donation to the Hippokration General Hospital in Thessaloniki.

The donation consists of special equipment for the needs of the Human Milk Bank, specifically a pasteuriser and a refrigerator, while Ilitominon donated a freezer. All three are essential for the sterilisation and safekeeping of donor milk, which in turn has multiple benefits for new-born babies and infants – especially premature ones.  

Thanks to this equipment, the Hippokration becomes the first hospital in Northern Greece to establish a Human Milk Bank, which is crucial for the well-being of premature or critically ill infants, while also supporting mothers who are having difficulties with breastfeeding.
