Emergency

EU status

In recognition of its contribution to Europe’s energy future, the Trans Adriatic Pipeline has been named a Project of Common Interest by the European Union.

The EU recognises TAP’s role in addressing the urgent energy policy objective of ensuring security and diversity of energy supply to Europe.

By opening up the Southern Gas Corridor and allowing Caspian natural gas to flow into Europe’s energy markets, TAP adds to Europe’s existing natural gas networks, making the continent’s energy supplies safer, reliable and more integrated, while supporting EU’s energy transition objectives.

History

The conception, development and realisation of pipeline projects like TAP is a complex process. It involves, among other things, an inspiring vision, painstaking attention to detail, world-class expertise, forging of effective partnerships, and careful consultation with stakeholders.

Project of Common Interest

The European Commission, Parliament and Council have awarded TAP the  Project of Common Interest (PCI) status under the EU Trans-European Energy (TEN-E) Infrastructure Regulation 347/2013 in 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019 for its role in opening up the Southern Gas Corridor. Being identified as a PCI four times in a row signifies the EU’s solid political support for the pipeline.

Project of Energy Community Interest

In 2013 the Energy Community named TAP as a Project of Energy Community Interest (PECI). This designation is only given to projects that "have the highest positive impact in the largest possible number of contracting parties."
